Fujitsu Develops World's First Color Electronic Paper

Fujitsu Laboratories, Fujitsu Advanced Micro Devices Inc. and Fujitsu Ltd. announced that they have successfully developed the first film-based, color-flexible electronic paper with image storage capabilities. This soft, thin electronic paper can display realistic color images, even if the screen is bent. Its storage function enables it to continuously display the same sub-image without electricity. Only a weak voltage is required for image conversion, and thus it is very suitable as a new electronic medium for displaying information or advertisements in public places, and is as easy as handling paper.

Its main features are as follows:
-- No power is required for continuous display, and the power consumption is small when the display image changes.
-- High level of display.
-- Soft and flexible.

It is understood that this joint research and development of electronic paper will be presented to the public at the “2005 Fujitsu Forum” at the Tokyo International Forum today and tomorrow. Fujitsu will further conduct market and practical application testing and strive to commercialize it in fiscal year 2006 (April 2006 - March 2007).
