Assisted Rappel
Assisting with the descent method is a kind of descent technique in which the rescuer and the rescued share the main rope and the descender. It is often used when the victim cannot complete the descent due to injury or lack of experience.
First, the double rope is buckled into the descender and the main lock. In order to prevent the rope tail from accidentally slipping out of the descender, the two rope ends should be tied together before the descent begins. In order to avoid inconvenience caused by the operation is not smooth, should use different lengths of flat belt or use a rope cover (in the middle hit "8" word knot), buckle into the main lock on the descender. Next, use the master lock to connect the ends of the strap or sleeve to the rescuer and the victim's harness. At this time, the length of the webbing connected to the descender may be adjusted according to different conditions. Shorter straps allow the victim to be supported by the rescuer's legs during the descent. If the length is the same as the length of the rescuer's webbing, the rescued person and the rescuer can be reduced side by side. However, it is easy to cause a decline without being smooth. In general, when the victim is injured and it is ensured that the rescuer’s hand can touch the descender, I prefer to use a longer sling for the victim to be below me. This way the rescuer can bring injuries. It's as easy as carrying a bag.
Use the Autoblock junction (see figure) on the master rope under the descender to back up the descent system. Use a short sleeve or flat strap to hit the Autoblock knot and attach it to the leg loop of the rescuer's seat belt. Use a separate flat strap to connect Grenth Hitch (see photo) to the rescuer's and rescuer's seat belt respectively. Connect each strap with a master lock.
