Rapid mold change to increase yogurt production

The problem faced by the German thermo-molding machine manufacturer Illig is how to meet the requirements of dairy processing company Rigas Piensaimnieks, which uses a machine to package completely different products such as yogurt, cheese and honey.

Illig's solution is the FS31 forming-filling-seal production line. The solution is to design three different adjustment tools that match the conversion time and product modification time. This design solution balances smooth tool production with user-friendly requirements. The basic concept is to set only one mode for all required tools.

The CAD system has developed different container sizes and can display three-dimensional images for customers. This will enable Illig to quickly make decisions on three package sizes and tool settings: 90-125 g double cups for yogurt, 100-200 g cups for cheese, and 20- for honey and other products 30 g quadruped cup.

The next question is how to fill three different modes of packaging. One option is to use three different filling machines, each with a different number of nozzles, but this filling method is too expensive and complicated for the customer. So Illig chose a 24-head filler with a range of 10 to 100 grams per filling nozzle. A 200-gram large package is filled with four nozzles. The 125-gram medium package uses two nozzles. The 40-gram package requires only one nozzle. In this way, the position of the dosing device can be kept constant and all packages can also be filled with smooth, clean filling.
