Waste woven bag recycling is modified to advanced engineering plastic pipe

The Hubei Provincial Department of Science and Technology organized experts to identify the processes and technologies used by the Wuhan Institute of Chemical Technology to manufacture high-grade polypropylene pipes from waste woven bags. Experts believe that the research results with independent intellectual property rights are in line with the thinking of the circular economy and can save a lot of crude oil, which is of positive significance in promoting the construction of various engineering pipelines in China.

Each year, nearly 3 million tons of waste woven bags in China are one of the main components of white pollution that is difficult to degrade naturally. The production of a ton of polypropylene pipe requires the consumption of 25 tons of crude oil, which is a pressure on the country that lacks oil. Associate Professor Yuan Jun of Wuhan Institute of Chemical Technology and Honghu Science and Technology Co., Ltd. have cooperated with Honghu Science and Technology Corporation. Since 2002, they have begun to study the use of waste woven bags to produce polypropylene pipes. Through the toughening, reinforcement and modification of recycled woven bag recyclables, they prepared a special polypropylene pipe material, which has stable performance, good repeatability, and excellent process performance; they use patented technology developed independently. Special molds, using their special materials for polypropylene pipes, to create a series of drainage pipes with a molding diameter of 1.2 meters, unique and advanced technology.

Using this process and technology to produce polypropylene pipe, only about 1/5 of the fresh material is added, and the performance is comparable to that of all pipes produced with fresh materials, and the price is reduced by about 30%. At present, three companies in Shanghai, Hubei and other places have used this technology and technology to form an annual production capacity of 50,000 tons and an annual production value of 500 million yuan. According to calculations, if half of the used woven bags can be recycled into polypropylene pipes each year, the output value can reach nearly RMB 20 billion, saving 37 million tons of crude oil.
