Compared to traditional manufacturing methods, the most remarkable feature of 3D printing technology is its incredible level of design freedom. Whether the object is simple or highly complex, even a basic FDM desktop 3D printer can produce it with the right digital model. Many creators and designers have taken advantage of this innovation, and one such individual is Jakub Ratajczyk, a passionate remote-controlled car enthusiast with years of experience.
Recently, this college graduate used his knowledge of robotics, programming, and electronics along with 3D printing in his final project to build an advanced and futuristic remote-controlled racing car. His deep interest in design and 3D modeling has played a key role in shaping the final product.
The car's body consists of six separate parts, each printed with a layer thickness of 0.15mm using a Zmorph single-heating head 1.75mm extruder. After printing, Ratajczyk spent several hours sanding and polishing each part to ensure a smooth finish before assembling them with super glue. To enhance the aesthetic appeal, he also applied a black paint coat to the exterior, giving the car a sleek, high-tech look.
What makes this project stand out is the use of Voxelizer, a powerful software developed by ZMorph, a Polish 3D printing company. This proprietary tool is compatible with all open-source RepRap-style 3D printers and is known for its versatility in handling CNC machines and various extruders.
Voxelizer works differently from traditional file formats like STL or OBJ. Instead of using triangle meshes, it generates a voxel-based file format, which can be thought of as 3D pixels. This allows not only surface details but also internal properties of the object to be recorded, offering greater precision and control during the printing process.
Comment: As 3D printing technology continues to evolve and become more accessible, we can expect to see more independent and creative projects like this one. These innovations are set to bring new excitement and possibilities into our daily lives, proving that the future is being printed—one layer at a time.
