Requirements for calibration conditions and measuring instruments for ventilation type aging test chamber

In the inspection of cable insulation and sheath materials, a heat aging test is commonly performed. The primary equipment used for this test is the ventilated aging chamber. The test temperature varies depending on the type of insulation and sheathing material being evaluated, typically ranging from 100°C to 200°C. Although the ventilated aging chamber is considered an environmental testing device, it has additional requirements compared to standard environmental chambers. Based on relevant regulations, standards, and practical calibration experiences, the author has conducted a detailed analysis of these systems. First, measurement characteristics: The ventilated aging chamber must maintain a specific number of air exchanges per hour—between 8 and 20 times per hour. The temperature deviation should not exceed ±2°C, and both temperature uniformity and fluctuation must be within ±2°C and ±0.5°C respectively. These technical specifications are essential for ensuring accurate and consistent test results. Second, calibration conditions: The ambient conditions for operating the ventilated aging chamber should be between 15°C and 35°C, with humidity ranging from 30% to 85% RH, and atmospheric pressure between 86 kPa and 106 kPa. Calibration is usually performed under no-load conditions, but if required by the user, it can also be done under load. However, any load conditions must be clearly documented. Third, standard and auxiliary equipment: For temperature measurement, a level I sensor is used. A display instrument is employed to collect and show temperature readings, with a time constant of less than 15 seconds. A second-class mercury thermometer is used to measure the temperature at the geometric center of the chamber. A 0.5-level single-phase standard energy meter is used to measure power consumption over a certain period. Lastly, a stopwatch with a division value of 0.1 seconds is used for timing purposes. These calibrated instruments ensure that the ventilated aging test chamber operates within acceptable tolerances, providing reliable data for the evaluation of cable materials. Proper calibration is crucial for maintaining the accuracy and consistency of aging tests, which directly impacts the quality and safety of electrical cables in real-world applications.
