European Waste Paper Standard

(This document is a revised version of the CEPI form developed by the European Paper Federation (CEPI) and the International Recycling Resources Authority (BIR) in January 1995)

Foreword

This table is the European standard table for recycled paper and paperboard, which clearly specifies the general content of different grades that should and should not be included.

This table is suitable for those specialized factories, organizations, and individuals who are interested in the reuse of paper, and help the paper and cardboard remanufacturing industry to buy or sell raw materials.

This form also provides the basis for customs and domestic GST officials who require raw materials extracted from waste to be classified according to their source.

The purpose of this table is to clarify the quality standards in the trade of paper and cardboard reuse in the European market, not to detail the quality standards of all varieties that exist in the market. Since the description of the standard is simple, we should realize that for special trades, buyers and sellers have special requirements for the standard, which makes it necessary to supplement the standard according to individual requirements. Paperboard manufacturers can require suppliers to provide raw material sources according to international guidelines or standards. The waste paper rejected by the sorting station is not suitable for reuse by the paper mill. The waste paperboards containing useful substances and reusable wastes obtained from the comprehensive acquisition station must be specially labeled, and it is strictly forbidden to mix with other waste paperboards without a mark. There is a special grade for waste paper, which is the fifth "special variety". In most cases, such substances must undergo special procedures before they can be reused; or they may cause some special results. This conclusion has been confirmed in the European market. In fact, only a few factories in a few countries can recycle this special quality.

Explanation

Unusable substances

Unusable products made from paper and cardboard made up of prohibited substances and waste. In principle, the provision of waste paper and paperboard mixed with unusable substances should be avoided, but for special varieties, buyers and sellers can allow a certain proportion of unusable substances on the basis of negotiation. This can only be described by elements that are harmful to the production of paper and cardboard.

Inclusions

Including all foreign objects that may cause damage to the production process and mechanical equipment, such as: metals, plastics, glass, knitwear, wooden products, sand and construction materials, synthetic materials, synthetic paper

Waste

Including all papers and paperboards that have been processed by various methods that affect the production process of specific paper and cause harm to the treatment of the entire waste paper. With the advancement of technology, more and more factories have known to control the production of this grade of waste paper and cardboard as much as possible to improve the recycling rate. Different factories have different judgment standards for the percentage content of waste in this kind of waste paper and cardboard.

humidity

In general, the humidity in waste paper and cardboard should not exceed the standards of nature. In dry air, if the humidity is higher than 10%, then this additional 10% of the weight will be deducted. Such measurement and sampling are carried out on the basis of agreement between the buyer and seller.
