Monosol LLC's water-soluble polyvinyl alcohol film won a gold medal. Monosol says that packaging products made from water-soluble films enable companies to provide users with pre-measured unit doses of products. It is convenient and completely dissolved, leaving no trace of the packaging that needs to be handled. The water-soluble packaging material can prevent the user from directly contacting the product and improve the safety of the material in the packaging.
MonoSol uses a polyvinyl alcohol (PVOH) resin supplied by DuPont to make films by so-called solution casting. The film is then produced by conventional f/f/s or in some cases by thermoforming.
