Sodium iodide

Cas number 7681-82-5
Molecular formula NaI
Molecular weight 149.89
Sodium iodide
White cubic crystal or powder. Odorless, bitter and bitter. It is easily soluble in water, ethanol, acetone, glycerin, liquid ammonia, liquid sulfur dioxide, and the aqueous solution is slightly alkaline. Deliquescent, absorbing water in the moist air and clotting. It gradually decomposes on contact with air to precipitate iodine, which gradually becomes brown.

Product use The chemical industry is used as an important raw material for the preparation of inorganic and organic iodides. It is also used as a co-solvent for iodine and for the preparation of iodine emulsions. The pharmaceutical industry is used to produce expectorants and diuretics. The photosensitive industry is used as a sensitizer for film, and it is used as spot analysis and other analytical reagents in analytical chemistry. Used as an oxidant in chemical reactions.
When the temperature is lower than 65.6 ℃, sodium iodide forms various hydrates with uncertain water content in the aqueous solution. The dihydrate is precipitated from the solution at room temperature as colorless prismatic crystals, and the pentahydrate can be precipitated within 13.5 ~ 31.5 ℃. It reacts with sulfur dioxide to form corresponding stable compounds. It has reducibility and can be oxidized by oxidizing to free iodine.
