American studies have found that regular exercise helps prevent nocturia

Researchers from the Stritch School of Medicine at Loyola University in Chicago, USA, have discovered that individuals who engage in regular physical activity are less likely to develop nocturia, particularly among men. Nocturia is a common lower urinary tract symptom that causes frequent nighttime urination, often disrupting sleep and affecting quality of life. This condition is typically linked to benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), where the prostate gland enlarges, putting pressure on the urethra and bladder. Additionally, reduced bladder capacity can also contribute to the frequency of nighttime urination. In their study, researchers analyzed data from over 28,000 men and found that those who engaged in regular exercise—defined as at least one hour per week—were 13% less likely to experience nocturia. The findings, published in the *Journal of Sports Medicine and Science*, suggest that physical activity may help reduce inflammation in the urinary system associated with BPH, thereby lowering the risk of nocturnal urination. The results highlight the importance of incorporating regular physical activity into daily routines, especially for middle-aged and older men. Exercise not only supports overall health but may also play a key role in maintaining urinary function and reducing the discomfort of nocturia. By making time for consistent movement, men can take a proactive approach to improving their long-term well-being.
