Plaidfox Studio: Balancing Modern and Traditional Design
Established in 2014, Plaidfox Studio has become a prominent name in the world of interior design, featured in some of the most respected publications globally. This dynamic team of young designers excels at blending modern aesthetics with traditional elements, creating spaces that are both timeless and contemporary. Their work emphasizes attention to detail, evident in the thoughtful combination of colors, textures, and materials across both residential and commercial projects.
One of their notable projects is a modern penthouse in Gastown, Vancouver. Originally part of a revitalization effort in the historic area, the 2008 condo was transformed into a stylish living space. The design incorporated unique elements such as a seven-foot-tall Terracotta warrior replica and original Joshua Tree wallpaper, each telling a story about the homeowners’ lives and travels.
Another standout project is a Moroccan-inspired condo in Vancouver. Designed for a travel-loving homeowner, the three-bedroom, two-bathroom space was completely reimagined with custom pieces like a rose cabinet and Moroccan archways. Materials from Morocco, Denmark, Montreal, and Italy were used to create a bold, eclectic style that reflects the homeowner's global perspective.
In Langley, Plaidfox Studio designed a Nordic-inspired farmhouse nestled in the woods. Despite its large outdoor space, the interior was crafted to feel cozy and intimate. Features like shiplap ceilings, black herringbone tile backsplashes, and concrete apron sinks add texture and character, while functional furniture ensures the home is suitable for a family with young children.
A historic farmhouse in the Langley countryside was another transformative project. Working with Homestar B.C., the team turned a dilapidated structure into a Georgie Award-winning retreat. Using reclaimed materials and vintage elements, they created a timeless home that honors its history while offering a modern, comfortable living environment.
In addition, a Scandinavian beach house was renovated to reflect a minimalist, natural aesthetic. Bleached oak, honed black stone, and large-format marble were used to create a warm yet modern space that blends seamlessly with the ocean view.
Finally, a moody heritage loft in Gastown was redesigned to reflect the couple’s adventurous spirit. Instead of a typical Scandinavian look, they opted for a dark, luxurious space that evokes the vibe of old New York. The result is a unique, stylish home that perfectly suits their personality.
