Exclusive Interview With Emily Mackie

Born and raised in Texas, Emily Mackie was always surrounded by beauty and inspiration. This passion for creating unique and meaningful spaces led her to move to Chicago to study at the Illinois Institute of Art, where she earned a BFA in Interior Design. From there, her career blossomed with an impressive array of projects. In 2003, she found her true calling in residential design, and by 2004, she launched her own luxury interior design firm, Inspired Interiors. Join us as we take an exclusive look into her journey and creative process.

Emily has built a successful business that not only supports her professional ambitions but also empowers women to balance their careers with family life. As a mother of three, she leads by example, showing that dedication and passion can coexist with personal fulfillment. Her belief is simple yet powerful: “I love creating spaces that transform people’s lives.” She emphasizes the importance of a supportive network in achieving success and encourages others to pursue their dreams with confidence.

Throughout her career, Emily has faced challenges head-on, always prepared to solve problems and push boundaries. She believes in relentless ambition, stating, “As someone with an infinite desire for achievement, I will be trying to reach new heights until the day I die.” Her drive and vision have helped her build a thriving studio that continues to evolve and innovate.

When asked about her dreams, Emily gave a lighthearted response: “A client that doesn’t want any changes to my design work.” For her, the greatest satisfaction comes from seeing her vision come to life and knowing that her clients truly enjoy the spaces she creates. One recent project involved designing a gentlemen’s lounge with a full bar, and the client later shared that it had become the neighborhood’s favorite hangout. That’s the power of good design.

Emily and her team are committed to creating unique designs that reflect each client’s personality. Currently working on multi-family buildings across the East Coast, she finds this type of project both challenging and exciting. “It’s the opposite of residential design since we’re trying to attract people who want a specific kind of personality,” she explains. This approach allows her to craft spaces that stand out and tell a story.

“I don’t love talking about trends because a trend is just a conversation topic. What actually works for people in their home may not be trendy. It’s like skinny jeans – they don’t work for everybody. Trends come and go, but designing for a personality is timeless.” – Emily Mackie

Emily values clients who are confident in their choices and open to creative expression. She enjoys working with those in their late 30s or older who want to transform their homes into personalized, experience-driven spaces. “They don’t feel the need to follow what’s cool; they want to march to their own beat,” she says. Trusting her vision is key, and many of her clients appreciate the transformation she brings to their living spaces.
