Towering columns with elegant interiors design made a bold statement at Versace’s Autumn Winter show.
Covet House blog highlights how the catwalk at Versace’s Autumn Winter menswear show was sheltered by a stunning pavilion of towering columns inspired by classical architecture. The design studio Hylemo was commissioned to create this immersive set, which was showcased earlier this week in Milan.
Constructed entirely from laser-cut plywood, each five-meter-high column features six facets adorned with Versace's iconic Medusa head logo. According to the designers, these structures were meant to evoke a sense of grandeur reminiscent of classical architecture — a reflection of the brand's "style and power."
Each column had to be assembled on-site within 36 hours, a challenge that Hylemo addressed during the design phase. “The ribs are pre-assembled from overlapping layers of ply to create large elements efficiently,†the studio explained. “The laser-cut panels act as horizontal bracing, while the scaling triangular pattern tells a story aligned with the show’s theme of tribe.â€
As guests settled into their seats, stage lighting was strategically placed to cast shadows of the laser-cut patterns onto the floor, enhancing the dramatic effect of the set.
Hylemo, founded in 2015 by friends Harry Bowen and Josh Haywood, previously designed a temporary plywood “temple†for the Burning Man festival in Nevada’s Black Rock Desert.
